I am using Nagios 3.2 and Nconf 1.2.5 on a Ubuntu Server version 9.04 fully patched. All seems to be working fine except when Nagios generates an email notification there is no additional info in the email.

Below is an example.

***** Nagios *****

Notification Type: PROBLEM

Service: Explorer
Host: xxx.xxxxxxxx.com
Address: 192.168.0.1
State: CRITICAL

Date/Time: Wed Sept 2 13:57:22 BST 2009

Additional Info:

Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this please?

Thanks in advance

I have found the answer!

After much searching and testing i found the following bug in Nagios. h__p://tracker.nagios.org/view.php?id=62

The text was not clear (to me anyway!) where should i put the \n in the notify file? Anyway now it's obvious! If anyone else gets this problems i modified the notify-service-by-email misccommand in nconf and added \n directly after the $SERVICEOUTPUT$ as shown in bold below,

/usr/bin/printf "%b" "***** Nagios *****\n\nNotification Type: $NOTIFICATIONTYPE$\n\nService: $SERVICEDESC$\nHost: $HOSTALIAS$\nAddress: $HOSTADDRESS$\nState: $SERVICESTATE$\n\nDate/Time: $LONGDATETIME$\n\nAdditional Info:\n\n$SERVICEOUTPUT$\n" | /usr//bin/mail -s "** $NOTIFICATIONTYPE$ Service Alert: $HOSTALIAS$/$SERVICEDESC$ is $SERVICESTATE$ **" $CONTACTEMAIL$

Now Nagios works fine. This was NOT an NConf issue but a Nagios issue but as i installed Nagios and then NConf immediately after that i did not test Nagios before using NConf which in hindsight would have been a good idea! Oh well good job we have virtual machines these days for testing these things.
