Re: Programmatic usage of Nconf

Hi You can query and add to the NConf database using the Perl API described here: http://www.nconf.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=nconf:help:documentation:detail:api However, as of this writing, the API does not provide functionality to edit / remove any items in the NConf DB. Only reading and adding. Reg...

Re: Nagios Core 4

You're right. I believe I had noticed that also and committed an update to that patch a while later:

That was so long ago. Will have to release these changes sometime soon...

Re: Nagios Core 4

Hi. We discovered and fixed that bug in 2012 with the following change: https://github.com/nconf/development/commit/9d89dfa5216716fddb391164494c3b15bf0f6292 However, we never got around to publishing an updated NConf version with that and other bugfixes applied. Sorry for that. I will definitely try...

Re: Tying one attribute's value to another?

Yes, you're right. It puts The name of the server for which the config is generated.

What you're looking for would be something like a NAGIOS_COLLECTOR_NAME macro. This feature would have to be added.

Re: Deployment problems

Hi

It sounds like the following known bug with NConf + Icinga. We implemented a fix some time ago but have not yet released NConf 1.3.1

Re: Tying one attribute's value to another?

Hi Yes, there is a way to achieve this without tweaking the database. Simply add your custom attribute and define it as data type "text". Then edit your entry and add the following NConf macro as value: %NAGIOS_SERVER_NAME% When the config is generated, the macro will be replaced with the name of th...

Re: how to tell the monitor that it is no collector

Hi

Edit your monitor and collector server settings.

Make sure you assign the following host/service templates to them:

Collector --> Default_collector_server
Monitor --> Default_monitor_server

The templates influence wether the servers will do active or passive checking.

Re: Problems with Deployment Configuration

Hi It's very likely that you have a permission problem. NConf is typically executed with the rights of the apache user. You must ensure that apache can access you Icinga config directory, either by setting (group) permissions, or by using sudo. Check out our deployment documentation for some tips. h...

Hi.

Yes, there are some scripts. Check out what's in the nconf/bin/ folder. On the NConf webpage you will find some import tutorials.

Re: 1.3.1 Status/Release?

Hi 1.3.1 release is not "imminent", but we do work on it from time to time. There have been some design changes which need further testing. Also, the upgrade functionality is not ready yet. If you want you can cherry-pick certain bug fixes you need. However, do not use 1.3.1 pre-Release versions in ...

Re: Event handlers and other attribute questions

Hi We generally don't recommend users to add/change attributes because we cannot guarantee a clean upgrade pah if you do do. However, if some attributes are missing which you urgently need, it is up to you to decide and document your changes so that in a later release you can resolve conflicts. Usua...

Re: Flap detection?

Yes, you can add any missing attributes by logging in as Admin and then pointing to Administration > Attributes > Add in the navigation bar. All settings should be well documented. If. In doubt, compare how other existing attributes were defined.
